The RSJ quote calculator totals prices you enter. It has no live steel-price feed and does not generate a contractor’s estimate. Start with an actual quotation or use clearly labelled assumptions while collecting prices.
The project-country setting chooses UK pounds or Polish zloty and sets an editable standard VAT default. Changing country clears the monetary inputs so that a number entered as pounds is not silently relabelled as zloty. It does not convert currencies or calculate importing costs.
Enter the steel order
Choose the quoted section so the tool can display its theoretical mass. The selected section does not supply a price. Enter length per beam in metres, quantity as a whole number, and the quoted net material price per metre.
If the quotation prices each piece, convert it to the correct rate only when its scope is clear. An all-in fabricated price may include plates, finish or other work that should not be counted again. For mixed sections or lengths, total each group separately or keep a separate itemised schedule; one calculator row describes identical pieces.
Enter delivery for the whole order, excluding VAT. Confirm the actual rate on the quotation. Other project costs must be entered as a gross total, already including any VAT, because the tool does not tax that field again.
Reproduce a UK example
Assume two 4.3 m pieces at an invented net rate of £80/m, £120 net delivery and 20% VAT. Add £1,000 of other already-gross costs.

These are demonstration amounts, not supplier prices. A zero in other costs means that no allowance has been entered. It does not mean that engineering, installation or approvals are free.
Check a Poland example without converting currencies
If a separate fictional Polish quotation uses the same numerical inputs in PLN, with 23% VAT, its net steel-and-delivery subtotal is 808 PLN. VAT is 185.84 PLN and the steel order gross is 993.84 PLN. Adding 1,000 PLN of other gross costs gives 1,993.84 PLN.
That example checks the arithmetic and country reset behaviour. It is not a claim that a Polish supplier offers an equivalent order for those amounts. Pounds and zloty are different currencies; identical numbers do not mean identical prices.
Include the costs the form does not choose for you
There is no finish selector, express-delivery option or automatic engineering fee. Include fabrication and finish in the quoted rate where appropriate, or add their already-gross amount to other costs. Do the same for separately quoted engineering, installation, protection and making good, taking care to avoid duplication.

Tax sources and limits
The defaults refer to the UK standard VAT rate and Poland’s published VAT information. Confirm your transaction’s treatment and edit the rate if needed. Defaults are not tax advice for every project.
Currency conversion, customs, import VAT, reverse charges, discounts, staged payments and current market rates are outside the calculator. Save a dated quotation with inclusions, exclusions and the drawing revision before relying on the budget.
Structural work must be designed by a chartered structural engineer and receive the applicable Building Control approval. The calculator provides estimates of entered amounts only. It does not establish structural suitability.
